Diggy Smerdon

Diggy Smerdon thumbnailHere's someone that uses pen and paper for illustration, a rare breed these days. Diggy's illustrations have a great fluidity to them because of this approach. The black lines and sombre palette give these images a certain melancholic feel but that's not to be discouraged. He also has a blog where things seem to be a touch more colourful. He's currently studying on a graphics degree in Falmouth, but I get a sense that illustration is where his heart is at! One to watch I think.

Play it again Sam

Sam Gilbey imageSam Gilbey is, quite rightly, rather chuffed with his latest creation. The thumbnail image you see here is a small part of a much larger montage he has created for the film "Hot Fuzz". Having previously painted an image of "Shaun of the Dead", Sam was invited by the films director to create a new piece for his latest blockbuster. Click through to his site to see a step by step process of how he created his masterpiece.

James Jean

James Jean thumbnailJames Jean has an absolutely wonderful portfolio. He apologises in his news page for not updating as often as he'd like because he's very busy on long term projects. No wonder with this kind of quality. It goes without saying that his client list is very impressive.

Veerle's blog 2.0

Bemodern imageThis site is a great resource for any screen jockey. Veerle Pieter is mainly a web designer with a background in graphic design and illustration. I'm linking to her Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials as they are a great resource, but you should make time to browse the other topics available.

Justin Sweet

Justin Sweet thumbnailI don't know much about this artist other than his work is brilliant. I'm not usually one to gush over fantasy art but this is well worth a visit.
