My designs

Ratpack thumbnailI've started to populate my Flickr account with some design work from the last decade. Its mainly from my work on Future magazines. I have added descriptions to all of them just yet - that takes an age. Anyway, feel free to have a nose through them all. There's quite a few layouts that feature some images from top class illustrators - Insect, Twelveten, Richard May, Identikal to name but a few.

Alice Stevenson

Alice Stevenson imageWhilst doing a spot of random browsing I came across Alice Stevenson's portfolio. Its got a very nostalgic sixties/seventies vibe to it but with a more modern twist. I really like the use of linework and patterns and the return of brown as a colour!

Urban Art - Urban Retro

Lou Pimentel thumbnailUrban Retro are staging an artist head to head challenge called 'The Mouse vs. The Brush'. Here's what they have to say about the project...

The basis of this project is simple. We want to explore the difference between computer based art and traditional forms of creating art. 2 artists go head to head and create an art print using either the mouse or the paint brush. The art will then be sold as 50 Limited Edition Art prints along with 100 Sets of 4 button badges produced by each artist

In the first part of this project we have Ben the Illustrator using the mouse and Lou Pimentel using the Brush. We chose these 2 artists as they both have a bold and colourful style of art and their characters (Ben's Speakerdog and Lou's Cherry) make for a perfect friendly battle. Both artists are young up and coming artists with great talent.

Sounds great and the results are very bright as you can see from Lou Pimentel's badge (right). You can buy the resulting artwork in their online shop. I hope to see more contributions soon.

Creative Collective called The Clarabellas

Catalina Estrada imageA little while back I was trying to hunt down Kev Speck for a commission I had lined up for him. His site was down and I was unsure my contact details for him were up to date. So after a swift google I tracked him down to this site - The Clarabellas. Lo and behold I found that there were a few other familiar faces amongst the collective: Nigel Dennis and McFaul. I had commissioned these before with great results. Anyway I finally got in touch with Kev and the job was soon in the bag. Anyway, it looks like I've found a rich vein at the claras. I'm really liking Catalina Estrada's work (as shown in the thumbnail left).
