The Design Museum has given the designer of the year award to Jamie Hewlett. I've been a big fan of his since I started reading Deadline magazine back in the late eighties. Tank Girl ruled the world back then - its a shame the film made such a mess of it. Anyone who can cast a kangaroo as the main love interest in a comic has got to be good. When Gorillaz appeared a few years back I was straight out to buy the album - top stuff. For my money though the artwork actually outperforms the music!

These guys almost have the tech/gaming editorial market sown up for themselves. Magictorch are the type of team that can put an image to the bizarrest of briefs. Their consistent style and imagination makes them a regular contributor of Future's publications. 3D is their main stock in trade but of late they've been doing a lot more vector work. Check out what Sam, Sam and Mike have been up to...

I've commissioned Sean on a number of occasions - he has a wonderful abstract style that lends itself well to concepts that aren't exactly straight forward to visualize. I've also used a lot of his royalty free images from the Infinity range that Digitalvision sell. They're great for quick photoshop mashup sessions. However Sean doesn't just do abstract, he's also known for his distinctive portrait style. Most notably his images made up of thousands of overlapping circles gave Nestle Aero its inspiration for its bubbly ad campaign of last year.

I've been given a new position at work. I'm moving from .net to Online Gambler and WPT Poker magazines. It means that from now on my work will involve far more photographic imagery. However I won't be abandoning my first love of illustration just yet - I'll still be working on my own projects. It's been great working on the internet titles over the past eight years - time to move on and try something new. Though I'm sure the tinterweb will keep me hooked.
