Biblical splendour

I promised to blog a post about Gavin but its taken me a while to get around to it. Gavin Strange of Jam Factory is the illustrator who produced the wonderful artwork on my Web Heaven and Hell cover. The critter to the side of this post is a detail taken from that image. It's a great style that Gavin has. Plus he has ambition and enthusiasm in bucket loads (make that truck loads) and this always makes commissions that much easier. I handed the brief to him shortly before our Christmas break and he took to it with gusto. The end result was brilliant, so much so that I ended up using elements of it right through the mag.

I found him quite by accident. I had been desperately looking for a particular cutesy-with-a-twisted-core vector illustration style but my usual suspects were all booked up. Looking distractedly through random links on del.icio.us I stumbled on a Flickr set of mashups of a vector image entitled Pillboy. This led me to tracking Gavin down to find that he only lived down the road in Bristol.
