As you may know I've been creating patterns for my other site Patterns for Colouring for some time now. These have been mostly free colouring pages for people of all ages to download and colour in. Just recently I've been creating more complex and sophisticated patterns that will make excellent fine art prints. The thumbnail shows just one of these patterns - click it to see more. I've chosen to market
I've just added a new illustration to my portfolio section. It's a piece I created for the SFX Dr Who Special. The feature was about an ardent fan of the series who decided to watch every Dr who episode available. That's right back to the original Dr played by William Hartnell. That's a real marathon of televisual delights. As you can see from the thumbnail I included some villians old and new and
Welcome to my new illustration portfolio and blog
It's been a long time since I've updated the site properly. So I've given the whole site a refresh to make everything a bit more streamlined. I hope everything is where its supposed to be.I've had to import the old blog into this new design so it'll take me a while to run through the archives and iron out all of the kinks. So enjoy the new site.
Patterns: Call for entries
My side project Patterns for Colouring has started to feature patterns from specially invited illustrators and designers. So far Ben the Illustrator, Matt Lyon and David Lyttleton have been added to the library, with more to come. I think the concept is working really well and would like to extend the invitation to the wider creative community. If you feel you'd like to produce colouring pages for
Patterns: Call for entries
The word is getting around about Patterns for Colouring and its getting featured on other sites like Creative Boom (pictured), Parent Dish (which is where I found the link to Marshall Alexander, below) and even Holy Moly - quite a broad audience footprint there! I've also seen it mentioned on a few parenting forums and moneysavingexpert.com. Design sites that have featured it include ColourLovers and
I've been on twitter for a while now but I've only just updated the sidebar to show the link. If you'd like to see my arts, illustration, design and general nonsense tweets go ahead and follow me...
100+ free colouring patterns
Its update time in the land of patterns. My free CC pattern site now has over 100 high resolution images. I'm getting some great feedback from sites like Geekdad, Colourlovers, and Ideafixa who have all linked to the pattern blog recently. It would be great to spread the word even further so that children and adults can all get experimenting and learning about colour.
75 patterns and counting
My pattern blog is building up quite a collection of downloadable images. I've just uploaded the 75th pattern. They are all free for you to use (as long as you abide by the Creative Commons license on the site). All of the patterns are A4 in size and are aimed at kids to print out and colour in. I'm aiming to hit the 100 image mark soon.
40 free patterns
I've just uploaded the fortieth free pattern to my other blog. All of the patterns on that site are for downloading, printing out and colouring in. I'm aiming to have 100 patterns uploaded soon, I just have to get around to creating them! The patterns are mostly based on simple geometric shapes but I may branch out into more figurative areas at some point. Remember all of the patterns are protected
Just dropping by to say there's a couple of new pieces in my portfolio. This book is just a little drop-in image I produced for the recent redesign of WPT Poker magazine. Its been absolutely chaotic at Carlton Towers recently with work coming out of my ears. I've even been missing out on plugging the mag.
Carlton Hibbert's pattern blog
I've posted the twentieth free pattern design to my pattern blog. There'll be lots more to come. Get over there and download them all. Grab your pencils and crayons and get busy with your kids.
Here's my entry for Mailmeart's call for submissions. Get your own packages into them by 30 January - there's still time. My entry is just a quick doodle but it was fun doing something that didn't involve bezier curves. My son added a little something of his own work on the back.
I've decide to give the site a little facelift. I hope you like its more open and fresh look.
My design portfolio has finally launched. It will work as a sister site to this one and will contain a good healthy chunk of all of my design work from the last 13 years. There's quite a lot of stuff in there at the moment but I'm working on even more. Head over to the design galleries to see more. I have also started a new design blog which will run in tandem to this one, so bookmark both blogs to
In my old blog I used to put all of my thoughts in amongst the illustration posts. If you feel the need to see more of this kind of random rantage then go and visit my other blog...

Illustration portfolio update
I've just added an extra couple of images to my illustration portfolio. Go check them out...
Here's a job where I had to come up with an image for a feature about poker variance. Each element in this image was shot separately. This wasn't on purpose they just happened to be stock shots that I had in my library that fitted the bill. I think I've managed to piece them together fairly seamlessly. The bullet holes are an added element in Photoshop.
Red Nose update 3
Hoorah. Just to let you know it sold for GBP68 - considering how late in the day I created it, that's not a bad haul for charity. Thanks to all who took part. I'm considering doing more signed celebrity prints, if you've got any requests let me know.
Red Nose Day Update
You can find the listing for my custom print offer here on ebay...
Lenny Henry Red Nose Day illustration
I've produced an illustration of one of the main Red Nose Day presenters, Lenny Henry. I've printed this out as an A2 poster. I'll be listing it on ebay next week but I wanted to let people know about it beforehand. I'll post a link to the auction once it goes live. At the moment it is in the hands of his agent so that I can get it signed by the good man himself. I'll also be listing an auction in
Just to let you know I've added a new image to the portfolio section. As you were.
I've started to populate my Flickr account with some design work from the last decade. Its mainly from my work on Future magazines. I have added descriptions to all of them just yet - that takes an age. Anyway, feel free to have a nose through them all. There's quite a few layouts that feature some images from top class illustrators - Insect, Twelveten, Richard May, Identikal to name but a few.

I just love getting a cold at Christmas! Sniff. Merry Boxing Day to you all. I've been a bit quiet lately due to a last minute trip to Las Vegas to photograph some poker stars for future covers of WPT Poker magazine. More about that when I get better...
I've just updated the portfolio section of this site to include some recent work.
This is just a quick image I mashed together for one of the mags main news items. It was to support a piece about potential poker business acquisitions due to the recent turmoil caused by US legislation.
