WPT Poker magazine issue 28

WPT mag cover thumbnailI've been so snowed under recently that I've been unable to update you on our latest issues. Well let me fix it by pointing out our latest corker of an issue. Cover star Liv Boeree kindly gave up some of her hectic schedule to do an exclusive photoshoot for us. The results were great as you can see. We recently went to a recording session of a Pokerstars televised event. We had a bundle of these copies with us and they barely saw the light of day before many interested parties whisked them away for closer inspection. So get one while you can. Inside we profile her career as well as get her to interview Andy Black.
In this issue you'll find articles on:

Dash down to WHSmith right now.
Illustration wise, John Bradley provides the artwork for backstreet poker feature.

Here's the sleeve design of the official Windows Vista magazine's CD featuring my web building artwork. I did this a little while back but only just had chance to upload it. I'll put a clearer version in the portfolio soon.

Nick Girls

Nick Girls imageA certain old contributor of mine pointed me in the direction of a new cartoonist by the name of Nick Girls. Great portfolio for a relatively new artist but I'm sure we'll be seeing much more of him in the future. Check out his blog too for more up to date imagery skills.

Mailmeart

Mailmeart image
Here's my entry for Mailmeart's call for submissions. Get your own packages into them by 30 January - there's still time. My entry is just a quick doodle but it was fun doing something that didn't involve bezier curves. My son Ewan added a little something of his own work on the back.

WPT Poker magazine issue 24

WPT mag cover thumbnail
Happy New Year to all you Poker and Design fans. Here's the latest issue that you can pick up from WHSmiths or from the Future Mag store. This issue has Roland De Wolfe brooding moodily on the cover - the shot was taken during last years WSOPE in London. He gets good coverage in the mag as well with mentions in a number of features, the best of which is the Pro on Pro interview he takes part in with Barny Boatman. Arguably two of the best players on the UK scene. Other articles of note...

Illustrators in this issue are Sam Gilbey and Chris Stocker.

Happy New Year

And to get things started here's Bob Staake's crazy ass video of his drawing technique using Photoshop 3.0. Magnificent.

"What is Vector?"

Kirk thumbnailWell it could be a Kirkism or it could be this. But then, maybe it has something to do with this instead. Hmm?

Introducing Cormac Jordan

Cormac Jordan imageIn the blog post below you'll notice a reference to Cormac as a contributor to the latest issue. Well he's an old friend from way back. He also happens to be a fine arts trained designer who can turn his hand to using the old crayons. The thumbnail shown here is just a taster of the finished artwork that appeared in the mag, in all he put together two images for me. This link sends you to his design portfolio on Flickr, but if I nag him enough I'm sure he'll put together a folder of his illustrations up there too. Apart from these contributions Cormac is my resident freelance designer, putting his Indesign skillz to good use on WPT every month - I think I'll have to let him break out the crayons more regularly.

WPT Poker magazine issue 23

WPT mag cover thumbnail
Belated plug of the latest issue - I've been mad busy recently on about seven different tangents, so keeping everything up to date has been difficult. Never mind you've still got chance to get hold of a copy and read about the following...

So long Pixelsurgeon

Pixelsurgeon is being closed down, as the founders can no longer devote the necessary time to keep it viable. I'm sad to see it go, but can understand that with other projects they can no longer maintain the site. I've found a lot of very interesting links and leads there over the years. So to all who sailed in her/it - many thanks and good luck!

Smoke and mirrors

Smoke effect imageWell, just smoke actually. Here's a neat little tutorial for those stumped on how to generate a wispy smoke effect using Illustrator and Photoshop from PSDTuts.

WPT Poker mag: Issue 22

WPT mag cover thumbnailVegas came to London recently for the WSOPE and we took the opportunity to bag an interview with Phil Hellmuth (whilst hobnobbing at the Savoy). We asked him about how he felt winning his eleventh bracelet. Also in town was Annette15, demon online player - she went on to win the London event right after we set our photographer loose on her! Apart from all of this we have the following in the latest issue...
